Motivation by Tony Gurr
This was really hard for me to understand; in fact I still don't understand it. I can see the point he's trying to make, which is that he wants more freedom in learning because when kids don't get that then it stops them for reaching their goals. I didn't really understand what his point was with the pictures because the pictures distracted me a lot and I couldn't understand what some pictures meant. In my opinion, the pictures were overused. I personally prefer more writing than pictures and Tony's blog was the total opposite.
A picture that I couldn't even get near to understanding was this one:
A picture that I couldn't even get near to understanding was this one:
He didn't really give a clue either to what he meant by this. The only thing Tony wrote was "Yes....." before this picture. Then he went on with his other pictures. I tried really hard to figure this out, but I failed. Maybe someone can fill me in?
Since, I didn't understand a lot of the pictures I can't really relate or write much about this post. The positive thing was that he at least got his point across, which I think is correct. I really couldn't get much of a understanding through his pictures and what he wrote, but the only thing I got out of it is that Tony wants to motivate teachers to give their students more freedom and give them freedom, so that the students can get a chance to achieve their goals. Other than that, I can't really say much about Tony's opinion.

Motivating our LEARNers…or “Co-Creating” a CLIMATE of LEARNacy?
I found, to my surprise that this blog post was very interesting. It kept me "hooked in" for the whole time and I really enjoyed reading the memes he wrote. I like his style of posting because by incorporating pictures into the posts, he can grab any reader's attention, including mine! The only problem I had with this kind of blogging style is the fact that you have to be organized. On a scale of 1-10 I would give this post an 8 for organization because, some of the pictures look like it doesn't quite fit into the post.
As much help the pictures are for the post, I think it can some times be distracting. If his pictures were more simple and used less colors I think it would have added to the post even more. Even though some of the pictures were problems, I still have to strongly agree that his post about motivation and blogging style is very effective. It's easy to do, it gets people's attention, and it's probably fun, too! Next year when I take English, I might just suggest this kind of blogging style!

4. The media should remain neutral during elections
Starting off with the topic "The media should remain neutral during elections" is why are the media always involved with everything. As fairness these days aren't quite fair anymore. To be honest since the fact of cheating came in play the world has changed a lot. Many people have been cheated and have been stepped on by the fact that people make up lies on what they did or not. It's the peoples choice on whom should be elected not the media. For example, a man who has worked his heart out to be elected is chosen by the people but close to the end of the election some rumor is spread that he has done something that no one has done before that he will regret for ever, and gets to the media. Say some other guy is not so popular but is more promising because of this horrid rumor.
The media these days are very different from the past as it has evolved a lot. On a website from Pakistan (http://dunyanews.tv/index.php/en/Pakistan/167455-ECP-tells-media-to-be-neutral-during-elections- ) quote "It further advises media not to use derogatory titles for politicians that can damage the reputation of a candidate.
Advising media to follow professionalism, the ECP says media will have complete access to information during the polls.
It also directs the local authorities to provide protection to media men so that nobody can harass them.
Media should not takes side of any political party or personality, and avoid presenting public opinion out of context.
Similarly, the code says that media should not air rumours and conjectures, the code says.
It also urges candidates and political parties to respect the freedom of expression."
In conclusion, yes media should stay away from creating mischief on grounds against any candidate. They should create a law that if media interferes with the election that they should be ejected and fined highly so nothing is created and all harm is low. Everything should be well and evenly matched. For the best candidate shall win with hard work and effort.

Student Vote Reflections
Topic:
6. Describe your impressions from the FH All
Candidates Debate. Did the candidates' performances help you
decide your vote?
I had never been to a candidate’s
debate before. I thought this was a very interesting thing to do at our school
because, like Amrik Virk said, "We need to engage the voters!" I
totally agree on what he said for his speech and it made a lot of sense to me.
I think that we need to involve younger audiences in the elections because,
like the election night said, “only 49% of people voted, and they were mostly
adults.” One problem I had with the debate was that, what all the Candidates
said doesn't involve us. “So what if you lower the bridge prices?” We don’t
cross the bridge anyways, and if we do, we will be on a transit or in a car. I
understand that they each stand for something, like the bridge, the health
care, the education, and I’m not sure what the BC Visions stand for. But they
need to think of what’s in it for us younger people.
Take McDonald's for example, they have a playground inside most restaurants. They
have one because it attracts kids, “Hey mommy, can we go to play at McDonald's ”
When the family does get there, they have to buy something to eat, for
themselves and their kids. So just like McDonald's if one of the candidates
said something like, “Free lunches for high schools in Surrey.” Then the kids
will convince the parents to vote for them. Also, every parent cares about
their children, so if they see a candidate caring for children, standing up for
them, providing them with a good life, then they will vote for them, not
someone who will lower the toll prices.
For
the All Candidates Debate, I had no problems with it. I heard what everyone had
to say, but I just wished they had more time, because they were on a tight schedule.
I wonder if BC Visions had someone else to represent them because I couldn't quite figure out what they were trying to say. The debate did help me on
choosing someone to vote for in the student vote. I thought Amrik was a very
good speaker, acknowledged that the audience was lost/bored, and stood for a
good cause. With all problems aside, I had a good time at the All Candidates
Debate, and hope to hear them again soon!

Julius Caesar Act II - Power always corrupts the one who holds it.
Power is
only a tool; it can be used for good or bad. Let me mention, power attracts
corruption, but doesn't always corrupt. People are the one who decide how is
power used. Some people use power to abusive levels in order for them to
achieve what they want. Others, who have good intentions will use power to
accomplish something beneficial to not just them, but to others as well. It’s
debatable that bad people are often out to seek power. In my opinion, yes they
are. By being a good person you are less
likely to think of bad ideas that often influences people to do bad stuff who
have power.
Power is often given to those who
seek it, and not to those who deserve it. Move people who get power are those
who will use abuse it. We are taught to be better then someone else in any way.
We just want more, more and more of everything. Once we get that idea in our
mind, then the best way to be better then someone is to gain power. Like I said
before, we want more, more and more, so once we gain power we abuse it to get
more of anything. The people who have bad intentions are greedy, selfish, and
eager to get what they want. This mind set can affect many things in the world,
such as violence. People want to get what they want and use power, then they
are willing to take any obstacle that comes in their path. An example of this
would be a man called Hitler. Hitler had great talents in many fields, but
madly the more power he gained the more evil he turned. Hitler is a perfect
example of power corrupting the one who holds it.
On the other hand, using power with
good intentions nowadays is really rare. There are some people who are some
people who learn to be worthy, honorable and precious. By using power
effectively there are some dangers because other people who want power are out
there hunting it, which puts the one who is holding power in danger. The
effects can be devastating even to the one who holds power. There aren't many people
who weren't corrupted by power, but there are some. Gandhi, George Washington,
and Jimmy Carter were one of the few people who weren't corrupted by power.
This just means that their spirit was really high and nothing could break
through it.
Power doesn't corrupt all people,
but it corrupts most. Power doesn't corrupt people it just reveals a person’s
true intentions. In history, there haven’t been many who didn't get corrupted
by power and they are recognized as legends until this day. One of the well
known people whose intentions weren't affected by power is Gandhi. After all, I
would like to say that you have to have a really good mind set when you gain
power, if you’re intentions are weak you will easily get corrupted.

Julius Caesar Act II
Julius Caesar Act II
It is
sometimes necessary to take decisive, preemptive action against someone because
of what you fear he or she might do later. Many examples in the world include
some of the most violent countries at the moment, for example, Libya. It all
started with news on people protesting against the government to tell him to
step down. The government was a dictator and he wouldn't step down, so the
people, afraid of what he might do next, started a war. Another example I want
to mention is North Korea. They have threatened to bomb the U.S. but yet no one
from that country is doing anything? Why?
What
are the people afraid of that preemptive action have to be taken against someone?
Sometimes it can involve forcing people, but other times it can involve a whole
war. The people in Libya started a war, and it threw the whole continent into
chaos. What I’m wondering is the fact that such actions have to be made against
someone. I am sure that if the people of Libya talked or asked for help, a war
could have been avoided. You cannot predict the future, even if the person say
he/she is going to do something, it doesn't always work out.
In
the end I believe it all depends on the situation of the scene. If what they’re
going to do will affect many people, I think you should take preemptive action.
But if all they’re going to do is win a contest to be the head of student counsel,
I’m pretty sure you can wait a year. It doesn't matter how bad the person is
going to be in the future, it could be how good he will be, there is always
kindness somewhere in their heart.

Positive change can be brought about through violence
"Violence doesn't solve everything." A quote in which we hear often from our elders. I do agree with this statement although in a lot of cases, violence must be the answer to solve a problem. Going to war isn't the best thing, but sometimes it needs to happen to protect the home land. Violence even occurs between friends and after the fighting and the arguments the problem is most likely settled to a positive form. Negative change can also happen with violence due to bullying, mischief and other sources of bad behavior.
What we see in the media, violence, crime and violent sports are everywhere. The sports we play and watch keep us from doing bad things. It's cheaper then jail, and its cheaper than bail. Our soldiers over seas are fighting for our freedom. In past wars our men and women put their lives on the line for us. They fought. It was violent. Look at our country now, there is freedom.
We haven't been around a war directly but we have seen films or movies based on them. This does bring some sort of positive change! Violence isn't always a negative. It can turn out to be positive in time.

Positives and Negatives of Being Too Loyal
Loyalty brings it's own positives and negatives into the world. Loyalty can or has a big impact on peoples lives. I believe that being too loyal isn't that good, I suggest to be loyal not TOO loyal. It's always good to be loyal because many things can be earned such as trust, friendship, etc.
There are many advantages of being loyal. Loyalty strengthens relationships. If you are loyal to someone you can easily gain their trust and care. Let's say a you are having difficulties in your life, wouldn't you need someone to be there for you and care for you? Well, loyalty can help you do that easily. Loyalty is something that can make you care and have value towards something weather it's a object, human, or anything. So, I would strongly recommend to stay loyal to everyone, especially people close to you because you'll gain someones trust, which is very important in healthy relationships.
Like I said in the beginning, loyalty brings positives and negatives. Well, there are always bad, careless, rude people in the world. Being too loyal is not very good. Some people will take your loyalty for granted. So, accepting everything they say can be harmful to you because they might be leading you to incorrect information. If your too loyal, then people will lie knowing that they'll get away of it and you have to acknowledge that some people will take you for granted. Here's an example, let's say that there is someone who you really like and want to become friends with them and the first thing that comes to your mind is be loyal, first. So, you are trying to be as loyal as possible and for some reason they don't want to be your friend then they'll slowly start to take advantage of you. They will go on with lies and lead you to the wrong path. So, be aware.
After all, I would like to say loyalty is a great thing. Being loyal is very good, but I suggest don't be too loyal. Try to be loyal to everyone and see what response you get. But, be aware of those people who take you for granted. Be aware of those people who you want to make a positive relationship with because if your careless bad things will turn out.

Positive and Negative Consequences
There are positive and negative consequences for being too loyal, although I think that it would be better to have someone to be loyal to as long as they show the same loyalty back. I also believe that it is good to have people to be loyal to you if you show the same friendship and trust towards them.
When I hear the word loyalty I mostly think of a very good relationship between two individuals. I also can imagine someone who thinks that they are friends with someone because they are so loyal to them. Both of these are examples of loyalty. One is a Positive loyalty and the other is negative, can you guess which one is which? Most people have been at each end of loyalty. Personally I would pick the positive side over the negative.
The positive outweighs the negative in my mind because with the positive, you are gaining not only someone to trust and believe in, you are gaining a friend. A friend is someone that you can share a mutual respect for one another. It is someone that you can have care for you, as you care for them. A positive loyalty is a bond that those friends will share forever.
If you ask me negative loyalty is for fools. When I think of negative loyalty I think of someone that worships another person and follows them everywhere, but they are trying to gain the same loyalty from the person they worship to make the negative loyalty, positive loyalty.
I do think that it is good to have someone to be loyal to as long as they are loyal back. Be careful who you select to be loyal to, because you never truly know who they are. You never know when you are in the presence of back stabber. It’s always good to have someone to be loyal to, as long as they are as loyal to you as you are to them.

Consequences of being loyal
Being loyal, being polite. Showing trust and gaining trust. These are items shown by being loyal. Although being loyal sounds rewarding at times it can have its negative impacts. Giving your loyalty towards friends, family or just a someone should be rewarded with loyalty back. This would be the positive side to loyalty. Giving your help and positive impact to the other person and receiving it straight back. But there are times where people take advantage of this. Showing your loyalty but at the end being taken advantage and being disrespected.
Due to untrust worthy, advantage taking of this hope is broken at the highest point of life possible. Life has took its toll and you're wondering whether being loyal is worth it or not, why has this person done this to you and what did you do to deserve this. At the most people just do this because you are too loyal and too trusted that they don't think of you, they think of them selves. This my friends are what I call a “not so much of a friend or shall I say “Bro”.
Towards the end of debating whether you life should change from being loyal or being "sort of" loyal everything changes. New friendships are made and that loyalty is "you" is brought alive again. Hope is new and refreshed. Although there is some negative consequences of being too loyal there are way more positive out comes or shall I say consequences to being a loyal person. For those who request that loyalty is not what it is and you will get a negative situation from it then you are false.
Thinking of the negative consequences are just a saying that you don trust that the fact that you are receiving what you have just shown them. But actually you are shown reward back as respect or as the same as you have done to them. I’m not saying that everything has its positives or that everything has its negatives, but I’m saying that “what comes around comes back around” and you shall receive what is yours.
Loyalty is rewarding. Shown as respect back you should do the same thing and this would be the best and far most legitiment reason of being loyal. Loyalty back. And from this the cycle begins from the start where the trust factor is broken and life restarts from the beginning. And although you may not know this person quite well you should we respectful, show you loyalty and that your reward shall come back even if it comes back in good karma. So as long as your loyal you should receive it back or you should give back the favour of loyalty to them.

Julius Caesar Act I
It is sometimes necessary to do things you know are wrong in order to achieve an important goal. No matter the consequence, a sacrifice of some sort has to be made. Although a sentence like this might sound scary, but it is true for both good and evil. On the bright side, not all action requires wrong doings. But is the goal really this important that "wrong things" need to be done?
This refers to the famous quote evil villains say in movies, “To achieve my goal, a few sacrifices have to be made.” This can mean any sacrifice, from lives to environment. But does reaching the goal require someone to do such horrible things? This all depend on what kind of audience is present to tell which is good and bad. What if the goal involves very simple actions like borrowing a garbage bag from your neighbor, without asking, because your bag ripped. Does this action count as evil, or bad?
If wrong doings have to be done, why are you doing it? Is it because someone is forcing you by putting lives in danger? Or is it because your survival instincts kicked in? The sentence was, "It is sometimes necessary to do things you know are wrong in order to achieve an important goal." I noticed it said "an important goal" Does this mean this doesn't have to be your goal? Most of the time, achieving a goal is NOT more important than lives, but there are times where there is. If there was, I believe everyone would try to take the way around doing wrongs things or making sacrifices.
To achieve someone’s goal does not always require wrong doings. It only appears wrong to those who see it in a different way (unless it is harming of something/ someone because I see it as wrong). But if sacrifices/ wrong doings need to be done, take some time into considering options around it. There may be a solution and no one/ nothing will be harmed because of some stupid goal that needs to be achieved.

No Red Pill, No Blue Pill.
This story seemed interesting to me because the author related learning to many things, one of them was bridges. "My desire insists on stronger, more permanent bridges." This means that the author wants the learning to be better then what it is right now. This story seemed to start off with learning is hard, and then it slowly moved into learning is individual, then student’s motivation. I think the story is just trying to say that hard work pays off. So, the harder you work the more successful you will be in life. "You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes." I think this means that there are no shortcuts in learning.

Uh-Oh
We seem to be having fount issues with our posts. If you guys have realized some of our fonts are highlighted in white. I will look further into this problem...
No Red Pill, No Blue Pill
This composition written by Ana Cristina Pratas was very interesting. I liked the details Ana put into talking about learning from every angle. From involving technology to autonomous learning, she covered all of these subjects very well. The images Ana incorporated into this piece of writing matched really well with the words. For example, when she was talking about learning like wool, " I wish I could say that learning is a delightful, warm, easy, fuzzy experience. Soft as the finest of wools, simple to weave meaning, silky and smooth when putting into practice." She put a picture of a sheep.
I had many connections while reading this composition. The connection I felt was the most important was from the digital learning part. Many people in this school, like she said, have little or no technical skills, and they don't wish to acquire them. I help as much as I can, with the technical problems everyone has. But I believe it will be a better school, better for me too, if people took the time and effort into acquiring technical skills, or help. It would help me a lot for my body and mind, if I knew people are getting the help they need.
I Think the audience for this topic/essay can be anyone that is learning. No matter how old you are or where you are, this essay really helps open the eyes of people everywhere; this essay even affects us in this class. We use technology in our course everyday, from the projector to the iPads. But what would happen if we didn't know how to use these things? How would our course have turned out then? I enjoyed reading this composition and hope Ana will write more like this in the future.

If Students Designed Their Own School
The idea of “Students Design Their Own School” would have its pros and cons. For some kids, this would be the best program, but not for all. Some kids, like me would need a little motivation to stay on task and stay focused. Others would need no motivation to stay on task all the time. I would also need a teacher in the room because I need someone to put pressure on me while I’m doing work or else it won’t turn out that good. I would stay neutral on this idea because this can greatly benefit one and possibly harm the other. I know what you’re thinking, “How about the kids who need that motivation to work don’t take this program.” Well, I have something to say. Some kids don’t take school seriously, so they would join this program and slack off. For my benefit, I wouldn’t take this program, but for others this could possibly make their life. I have a feeling that this could be abused by kids who don’t take school seriously, so its hard to put a one sided opinion. After all looking at the pros and cons, it’s hard to say "yes" or "no" because they have equal advantages and disadvantages, in my opinion. Since everyone is different I would stay neutral on this idea.

No Red Pill No Blue Pill Response
Well the story/poem is referring to learning, using passion, working for what is needed and for the effort to be in that work. I think the story is saying the more effort you put into something that you love or in school the farther you will get in life but if you take the blue pill you'll wake up and believe what ever you want to believe or in other sayings, you will continue life without a purpose. And if you take the red pill you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes or in other saying, you gave up and you having nothing else to do. But the story or poem goes on and states about "learning" and how it hurts but at the end it will be worth while.
I think this story/poem or what ever this article is, is purposely a message to students to do what they love to continue in school. To push, to work, to use passion in school, to improve.
The author's style of writing is different because talking to you about not giving in, it's like the wording of the article is meant for you and no one else. To be honest the pictures are sort of in the way and if you don't read properly you can miss some words. But the No red pill No blue pill is a great example it reminds you that you have choices that aren't good for you and the only choice is to try.
In conclusion, the article is really, really good. At the beginning it says about the red and blue pill and at the end it ends with it too. (Just pointing that out)

Speech - Revised
What Free Samples?
Just a normal day enjoying a drink at Starbucks, suddenly a wild tray appears! Filled with delicious cups of their newest product; even smelling it makes me want to go buy it. I quickly approach the table then realizes… There all gone! I just wanted to try a free drink from the famous Starbucks, now I feel sad that I missed a great opportunity. Then I started to wonder… Why are they giving out free samples? This is what gave me the idea to write this speech.
What is the point of a free sample? Well, it is just a way for the company to get buyers by giving the customers a taste of what they have to offer. For example, the deodorant you received from the mail. The company does not give you free products because they feel like it; they give you their products because they want to get your attention. So next time you walk into a store, the first thing you notice will probably be their product. “Oh hey! Is not that the deodorant I received in the mail?” Your friends will either agree with you or think you’re weird because you use deodorant from the mail. On the other hand who does not like free stuff?
Is the sample really free? I know it says free samples, but consider the fact that every sample is not free. Think about how the company got enough money to make these samples. Most of the companies spend money on free samples hoping to get the attention of consumers. They are hoping that by grabbing your attention, you will buy their products and refer friends to do the same. The money comes from the company’s own fund, and by making samples it is kind of like investing in stocks. The company can gain customers or they can lose customers because maybe their products are “not up to their standards.”
Some people misunderstand free samples that come into the mail. They think of it like ads and sometimes even spam. Here’s a good idea to those that hate samples: Donate it. I’m pretty sure there are people out there that need a stick of deodorant or a bag of tea. The truth is, free samples are ads; they really are, but think of it like the good ads, for example, McDonald coupons. That may not necessarily be good to some because they hate McDonalds, but for others, it is like early Christmas.
In the end, it all becomes your choice if you want to buy the company’s product or not. Free samples are just another way for companies to introduce new items they created to test the quality of their work. For the company, it is like taking a risk, you could like the product and buy more, or you don’t and never talk about it again. So next time when you try a sample at Starbucks, they might just get a new costumer.

digital life response
My response to the digital life video is: I agree totally with Amy Burvall totally that the digital life has taken over everything. We can still be educated with and without the internet. It's just a matter of the way you like to learn and how you've been learning from the very beginning. The flaws of this video is that it was confusing for me with the clips of Neil Armstrong and that woman.
if students were the teachers
i don't think that this would be a good idea for me to do because i don't think that i would be able to stay on task throughout the class. although i might not be able to do this i believe that some other students would probably benefit greatly from this experience.

Why crime will never end
We have all had something stolen from us whether a pencil a valuable treasure or even an idea , Hello class today I will be talking to you about crime and why it is a never ending cycle.
911 what’s your emergency? The words we hear when we report a crime a law enforcement dispatcher. Crime is a serious offence and is no joke. Now that we have some knowledge on crime, we can break down the different types here are a few. GTA or Grand Theft Auto, Cyber bullying, Money hacking / Illegal wiring, shoplifting and many more. These crimes all have something to do with each other they are all illegal!
A mind blowing question that I have always thought about is why do people commit crime? Because nobody wakes up in the middle of the night and says they want to commit a crime. I have come to a theory as of just why. Greed, lack of moral judgment, boredom, peer pressure, Passion, and belief of not getting caught are all reasons I feel people chose the commit crimes. The people which take pride and pleasure in such activity have no idea that they are ruining not only their future but there inner self they must deal with consciousness issues and self-pity most of the time they must block out the ‘’good angel’’ on their shoulder telling them what is right.
What are we doing to try to stop it? While others report it others take it into their own hands. When taking it into your owns hands it will sometimes make the situation worse than it already is for you. For example last year in Ontario a shopkeeper was robbed at his family owned fruit store. The perpetrator demanded him to open the cash register and give him all of the money. The shopkeeper acted as if he was going to retrieve the money instead he reached under the behind the counter and pulled out a colt 45 pistol and shot him dead. There was a problem with this scenario , first of all the shopkeeper should’ve called the police and secondly he shot him … while taking actions into your own hands my sound like a good making you the “hometown hero “it will also leave you in trouble. The shopkeeper was charged with attempted man slaughter and possession of a firearm , while the bandit was free.
Through learning about different types of crimes, back round knowledge and why people commit crime we reach a conclusion. Is it possible to end the cycle of crime? Well let’s look at it this way there are 358,193 babies born a day leaving us with quite a few future criminals on our hands , and with raising crime rates we can’t do anything but sit back panic and call 911.

Can I get a cell phone? You don't need a cell phone. But everyone else has one. If you have ever asked your parents for a cell phone the conversation might have gone a little bit like this. A more convincing arguement might have gone like this.
Well first off mom and dad, my social life would be off the charts. I don't think you understand how important facebook is, what if I need to write a status well I am away from my computer, what if someone posts a funny picture, I will have to wait until I get home, by that time the picture will be old so theres no point in liking it. What about instagram, what if I'm in the bathroom and I have perfect lighting for a picture, how will I be able to snap that photo without a phone. How about twitter, say I'm walking down the street and inspiration hits me, my tweet will read "Ms.Lees is so awesome #bestteacher", but I can't tweet it right away because I don't have a phone, now I have to wait until I get home, and I will probably end up forgeting about it before. This a big problem.
Another big part to having a phone would be the apps and music. Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 4 years you would know that apps are games that you are going to have to have if you have a cell phone, I'm going to assume that you have heard of angry birds, this is just one of the thousands of great games in the appstore. Also, how else am I supposed to watch my favourite tv shows when I am not at home, same with movies, what if I am sitting in class really bored, then a light goes on in my head. Hey why am I just sitting here doing nothing when I oculd be watching a movie, so I plug in my headphones sit back and watch Ted. I can't think of a better way to spend double block english.
Finally, there are the emergencies, like calling 911, but the only real emergency that you would need to call 911 for would be if someone stole your phone and how are you supposed to call 911 without your phone. Another reason that you need a phone is so that your parents can get a hold of you no matter where you are, so that they can call and ask you where you are and where your going and also to see how your day at school was. You would also need a phone in order to call the coast guard, what if you are on a boat and all of a sudden a shark starts to attack it, how are you going to get out of that mess without calling the coastguard to come and save you.
This guide should help convince your parents into buying you a cell phone. Remember get it ASAP, because you never know when a good tweet will come to mind or you just feel like playing a good old game of angry birds.

2nd Video Response
Through out this video the only thing I kept thinking of was, " WOW! This is awesome! I would love to participate in this program!" Then I had other thoughts like, "What am I going to learn everyday?" "What am I going to do when I'm done?" This kind of program, to me, is a great program for anyone because it is a whole semester of doing what you like. I can relate this to the genius hour project; This is just like genius hour, except it is longer and you get to work in a big group. One of the connections I thought of while watching this was related to the music video "Digital Life." I thought, " Did anyone decide to do a music video for their project?" This was kind of the only thought/connection I had because I found it difficult to relate a music video to a self-taught school.

VIDEO REVIEW eric porter
I totally agree that digital life has changed who we are without a doubt, but although this video may be educational it is also very annoying. Its very repetitive, I get that digital life has changed who we are but she doesn't have to say it 100 times. I would have tuned in more if it was maybe a teenager talking because I can relate to a teenager more than I can with a teacher. Also, it gave me headache because of the tune being really high pitched. I would have liked it more if it was a more recent song that I might have heard before or a song with a catchy tune.
Kenny McCormick seems like an average fourth grade student but he has a secret, kenny has been blessed with the power to never die.
It all started during seasons 1-3, Kenny died in almost every episode, but once the next episode came around Kenny would be alive again. In season 5 episode 513 Kenny is diagnosed with a terminal illness and dies again, but this time there was a twist, Eric Cartman one of Kenny’s best friends mistakens Kenny’s ashes for chocolate milk mix and drinks him. For the rest of season 5 and all of season 6 Kenny was living inside of Eric because Kenny’s soul was trapped inside him, but once season 7 started up Kenny was alive again. there are many theories as to why Kenny always comes back to life, such as he can’t die, he gets reborn, but one thing's for sure its a mystery worth solving.
The reason that this is important to me is because I’ve liked this show for as long as I can remember, and I think that the audience would be interested in this because its a popular show that some people might have seen before. Our goal is to find out why Kenny dies so often, then he comes back to life as if nothing has happened. We need to find out how Kenny comes back to life. The people that will be interested is anyone who likes this show or comedy. The area of interaction would be social education because its something that my group will have to discuss and also research. We are in a group, we are all interested in this topic thats why we have decided to work together in order to gather more information faster, as we will all be researching and discussing theories so that we can come to a reasonable conclusion. We should have this completed in about 4 or 5 weeks, this is reasonable because it will take us awhile to get all of our information then we will need to put it all together into a presentation format. We are going to have to work very hard and use a computer in order to work quickly and efficiently.

The
Boys
The boys, the bayz, the gentlemen.
No other creature on this planet could have such a bond. We make the good times
happen and leave all the bad things behind us. Do you have a friends like that?
I do and I love them all. You don’t have to be a male for this kind of
relationship. The girls should be as close as we are to each other. It’s all
about the kindness and the brotherhood we have.
The laughs, the good times and the
wings we’re all under, never leave us. Whether it’s backing a buddy up in an
argument or taking the boys out for a McDonald’s run, we always have a good
time. We have our own language… made up words, our own humour and making things
up on the go. Once a bay always a bay. A bay is one of our made up slang words
and it means one of the boys. I could tell you story’s about us, but you’d take
our ideas.
How this all came together was me
meeting one of the many boys I played sports with when we were very young. He introduced
me to his school friends. Later on we became the best of friends, or “besties”.
Ever since then we added on to the group and now there are about 10 bayz. But
there are other groups of them and we all come together usually at party’s or
other large social gatherings.
The thing is, nobody can tell the
future. We don’t know where we all will be in 10 years. Maybe some of us will
be on an African safari, or we will be
on mount Everest drinking beers and such. Hopefully we will all stick together
or at least stay in touch. Losing friends is almost like losing a finger.
Internet Use - Speech Draft
The internet has been probably the biggest creation in the history of mankind. It’s from getting news across the corner of the world to getting access to shopping. Now, everything is at your fingertips. The internet can provide you with almost anything and can offer you a lot within its service. However, like every single creation has its own advantages and disadvantages, so does the internet. The internet has much more advantages then its disadvantages.
What is the internet? The internet is basically a network that connects other networks. A few years back, the internet was unknown to some people and very rare. But today, the internet has become the most powerful communication tool throughout the world. Not only that, but it has become a really powerful tool for business, as well. The internet is used for a lot of reasons. One of the biggest reasons is to send and receive data in the form of e-mails, blogs, web pages, etc. There are billions of devices that can connect to the internet, mostly desktops, laptops, smart phones, tablets, and Macs. Nowadays, almost everyone has access to these devices.

The internet has a lot of advantages. Faster communication, information resources, entertainment, social networking, and online services are just some advantages. The biggest target of the internet has been fast communication and this has gone beyond what the humans expected. Newer ideas will just make the internet even faster to communicate and make it faster and better as technology continues to grow. Now, you can communicate with someone across the world in a split second. For better and faster communication, you can choose from a variety of chat services. That’s not it. Now, you can also see someone across the world from computer and have a live chat and one of the good services available for that is Skype. The information on the internet is probably the biggest advantage the internet has and gives. Information on any topic is available on the internet. Search engines such as Google can search up anything you wish to know. There is a huge amount of information available on the internet; in fact any subject that is on the internet known to man. Students are one of the most top users of researching information. These days, teachers even give out assignments that require using the internet for research. Entertainment is a very popular reason why people use the internet. Downloading games or just keeping up-to-date on what’s going on in life today that’s what the internet provides and in huge numbers of quantity. So, the internet would be a good place for game lovers. Social networking is huge on the internet. Some people cannot survive without Facebook or Twitter. Social networking has helped people meet people with the same interests. Social networking has become so popular for the teenagers that it might just be the communication style instead of meeting in real life and communicating. Apart from that, the internet can help you find jobs, make business, promote ideas, etc. Some people find their life partners on the internet, nowadays. The internet can provide so many online services, like booking movie tickets, paying bills, transferring money, and so on. Now, there are websites that can plan a trip for you. It will book a plane ticket, hotel reservations, food, etc. all of this is done for you. Life is so much easier and more convenient than ever before.
You have seen the good side of the internet, know what about the disadvantages? Well, stealing of personal information, spamming, viruses, and less and less of social connections in real life. The theft of personal information is a big problem these days with the internet. If you’re going to use bank accounts, social networking, etc. then you are putting your personal information at risk, such as your address that you might have put into a social networking website or your credit card number are all at risk. Today, there are very smart people and are capable of doing anything. So, they can hack your information using programs or software’s by breaking through the security system. This threat can create huge problems for you, so be aware when putting personal information out on the internet. Spamming is basically when a lot of messages or ideas are being sent to you rapidly. There is no purpose of spamming, but some people still do it to affect your computer in a negative way on purpose. The virus threats are big in internet and often users of the internet will eventually come across a virus. There are certain software’s that can help you prevent them, but not all viruses can be prevented with one program. Some viruses are very harmful and can break through some anti-virus programs. All the messages, that say, “This virus will blow up your computer.” are fake because viruses can not harm a computer physically. Some viruses just make your computer crash causing it not to work anymore. On the internet many people meet on the internet. More and more people are getting into the social networking world and away from their families and friends. Kids even want to play games on the internet and not go out and play with other kids. So, the internet can affect the social life of a child if their parents are not strict enough.
The internet has the potential to make our life easy and convenient, but at the same time affect our health and our social connections within the community. The effects of the internet are chosen by the user because of the choices made while online. So, if you were to use the internet in a clever way, the potential of the internet to affect you in a negative way is quite low. By looking at the advantages and disadvantages of the internet, overall in my opinion, the internet would be a good choice because the advantages dominate the disadvantages. It’s not the internet’s fault if you ruin your life by the internet, like I said the consequences are chosen by the user. So, use the internet wisely and I’m sure you won’t have any problems. After viewing the information, it's preferred if you use the internet, but wisely.

Film Ratings
Wanting to watch movies by yourself or with other peers. "Oh, I wish i was older so I can watch movies like that." You know, the scary movies, funny but graphic films... etc. You know the rest. But in Canada the ratings are pretty low. Is this a good thing? Yes? No? Well as a teenager we can watch all of these different kinds of movies without even bring our parents along. Do these low ratings affect teenagers who view these films?
What was the point of film ratings in the first place? What do R, G, PG, PG13 and NC-17 mean? Well the point of having ratings for films are that some scenes of the movie show irresponsible, silly, or even graphic scenes. G rated films represent "Guidance Audience" which also means that nothing out of the ordinary would offend parents for children watching. PG rated films represent "Parental Guidance Suggested" which means that some material may not be likes by parents that may be shown to young children. PG13 rated films means "Parents Strongly Cautioned". This means it should be meant for older audiences and maybe inappropriate for pre-teens. R rated films represent a "Restricted Film" which often means its for adults and also means you need an adult for you to enter this movie. And finally NC-17 or 18A which is not really common stands for "NO ONE 17 AND UNDER ADMITTED" this film will probably contain extremely graphic scenes which in the most part probably not be made.
Are film ratings even worth while? Around the world film ratings are lower or higher. In certain provinces in Canada, the rating system has come under criticism as being too lenient. For example, in British Columbia, the film Scary Movie was given an 18A rating, but was rerated because of the Motion Picture and Liquor Appeal Board to a 14A. This resulted in a record number of complaints to the British Columbia Film Classification Office from parents who felt the film should have been rated 18A. Many parents wrote letters to their local newspaper warning others that the film may be inappropriate for their fourteen-year-olds. Theatre owners complained about the inappropriate rating as well.
Pros and cons about lowered film ratings. The pros are that weather you are ages 12, 13, 14 you can watch movies that are rated say R in the United States. Or say as you grow older you want to watch movies by yourself or with other peers without having your parents around telling you what to watch and what not to watch. Cons. Well watching movies that is rated for an older age can affect the way a person can act or on what they say. They can learn new words that can be considered a swear word but will not be there fault because they thought it was "funny" or "cool" because they heard it from a movie. Well film ratings have there ups and downs but film ratings can be important weather you like it or not. Weather its boring or interesting.

My Speech
Topic: The purpose of free samples
Just a normal day enjoying my
drink at Starbucks, suddenly a wild tray appears! Filled with delicious cups of
their newest product; taking a whiff at the smell makes me want to go buy a
large. I quickly approach the table then realizes… There all gone! Feeling sad
that I missed an opportunity of a life time: trying a godly drink from the
famous Starbucks. Then I started to ponder… Why are they giving out free
samples? This is what motivated me to write this speech.
What is the point of a free
sample? Well, it is just a way for the company to get buyers by giving the customers
a taste of what they have to offer. For example, the deodorant you received from
the mail. The company does not give you free products because they feel like it;
they give you their products because they want to get your attention. So next
time you walk into a store, the first thing you notice will be their product. “Oh
hey! Is not that the deodorant I received in the mail?” Your friends will either
agree with you or think you’re weird because you use deodorant from the mail.
On the other hand who does not like free stuff?
Is the sample really free?
Consider the fact that not every sample is free. Think about how the company got
enough money to make these samples for consumers. Most of the companies spend
money on free samples hoping to get the attention of consumers. They are hoping
that by grabbing your attention, you will buy their products and refer friends
to do the same. The money comes from the company, kind of like investing in
stocks. The company can gain consumers or they can lose consumers because their
products are “not up to standards.”
In the end, it all becomes your
choice if you want to buy the company’s product or not. Free samples are just another
way for companies to introduce new items they created to test the quality of
their work.
(need to work a little bit more on the conclusion)
Video response to Digital Life
I must agree with the message of the Hawaii teacher because
it does really change who we are. At the end of the video, when Marshall
McLuhan said, “We are always living way ahead of our thinking.” I do agree with
that because there is so much information on the internet that you could find
anything you wish on the internet. Aside from the message, the song was very
catchy, but the problem was I didn’t like the song at all. The lyrics were
fine, but I just didn’t like the rhythm and the voice. The filming and video
editing in my opinion was great. Another thing I didn’t like about it was the
costume that the teacher was wearing. I didn’t get the purpose why she was
wearing it because it didn’t match with the rhythm or the lyrics of the song,
so that was something I wondered throughout the video. All in all, the video
was good with a good message, but the delivery of the message did not impress
me.

Video Response
I agree with Jimmy. The music in the video is fairly catchy. The filming of the video was really good and great for amateur editing. The sound quality wasn't that great though... But other than that all was good except for how the people in the video dressed. To be honest there clothing was ugly. This is an honest personal choice. Also the song did not pair up with how they dressed so it was really awkward at parts.
At how Jimmy said the guy wearing the shiny suit that he looked like "Cee Lo Green" that's really funny but he actually looks like the Tin Man From Wizards of Oz. At the beginning that lady did look like Lady Gaga and all but i dont understand why they chose there theme for this song... I agree on all the lyrics and such but just not the placements of there clothing.

Video Response
Sorry for the late post, I have been busy this week, but here is the video response!
I feel the music video was very catchy and well thought out, the production was well done and the lyrics matches the beat. I really like the music because it sounded familiar, I don't know where I have heard of this song, but I was sure I liked it. The problem i had with this video was the sound. I'm not sure if the sound quality was my computer or not, but I couldn't really hear the singer. I believe the singer should have sung a little louder because the music drowns out the lyrics. But thanks to the subtitles, I had a good idea of how the song's beat went with the lyrics. During the video, I kept thinking of Lady Gaga; The lady, to me, looks kind of like her. Now that I think of it, the song sounds like something she would sing. The lady's clothe also looks like something Lady Gaga would wear.

The other video on the other hand, was way better in my opinion. The sound was great, the lyrics was clear, and the song was good. I had no problems with the video, except for the clothe the ladies in the video wore. It kind of got on my nerve a little for the fact that they were wearing 80's style. The singer (the man) reminds me of Cee Lo Green because of the clothe he wore. I saw Cee Lo Green wear a shiny suit with those kind of glasses before, and the man looks just like that. Over all, I say the producers did a great job on both of these videos and hope they make more!
